Strong Foundation
When it comes to sustainable farming, nobody is more passionate than Colin Ford. He and his wife, Beau, emigrated from the UK in 2006 as adorable newlyweds. They’ve since had four children: Harvey, Louis, Poppy and Freddie, making Albany Farm Fresh Foods a family affair.
Big Dreams
Colin is a farmer from way back. He grew up on a pig and arable farm in Shropshire UK and has helped set up countless free-range piggeries in the Great Southern. Beau and Colin struck out on their own in 2016 and launched Frankland River Pork in 2021. The cluck of healthy chooks led the family to purchase Albany Farm Fresh Eggs in 2018. These days, they’re leading the industry when it comes to innovation, quality, value, and animal care.
The lost art of stockmanship
The idea of an old-timey stockman on horseback is romantic. And while solar-powered chicken shelters feel like a far cry from traditional Aussie drovers, shepherds, and graziers, stockmanship is at the core of our businesses.
Modern stockmanship is about creating an environment to suit the animal—rather than the other way around.
Truly free range
Our animals have constant access to fresh air, high-spec food, clean water and sun protection.
Environmentally ethical
Our farms are designed to protect the sustainability of soils, groundwater and biodiversity.
Happy, healthy animals
With the freedom to move and express their natural behaviours, our animals are content and consistent.
Our preference for smaller numbers and a higher standard of care allows us to produce premium free-range products. We’re serious about stockmanship because it makes the animals feel good. And it means we produce cleaner, better quality meat and eggs.
